When you waive/release a player that is above the plateus set by the league (150/50) you have two options:
a) A GM can buy out the player.
Any team buying out a player *prior to the EGDL trade deadline* will incure a 50% buyout hit of the full remaining contract. Any team buying out a player **after the EGDL trade dealine** will incure a 100% cap hit for the current season, and a 50% cap hit for subesequent seasons thereafter.
*-Defined as any point in time from Day 1 of the EGDL season until the last game played before the EGDL Trade Deadline.
**-Defined as any point in time from the EGDL Trade Deadline until the last day of the EGDL season.
Teams must have caproom before they can buy out a player. For instance, if a player makes 5M for 2009 and you want to buy him out before the trade deadline, then you must have 2.5M in caproom before the buyout is processed. The resulting caproom will simply be a byproduct of the buyout.
b) A GM can waive that player with the intention of placing him in their active minor leagues if he clears waivers.
He must go 24 hours unclaimed by another team. After that point, the GM can place him in their minor leagues carrying his full salary.
Four Important points
* Any player over the league stated plateus must be waived 1st. They cannot just be demoted, regardless of the circumstances.
* A minor leaguer that is called up and assigned a salary can be demoted at any time as long as the player is under the league plateaus at the time of the waiving(150/50). ..but once a salary is assigned, you must carry that salary.
* A waiver claim may not be recinded.
* A team that buys out a player, cannot bid on that player in FA in the current season that they bought that player out.
Options on claiming a waived player
a) If a GM claims a waived player with in the 24 hours and they have the highest waiver priority (determined by the yahoo site), they claim that player at his current salary and contract.
b) If a GM claims a player and wishes to demote him after they have obtained his rights, the GM must again waive him, and get him past the 24 hrs to be able to demote him to the minors. There is no skipping of steps.
Every player that is over the league stated plateus must be waived 1st.
Buyout Guidelines - GM's have the ability to "buy out" the remaining contract of a player they dropped in a lump sum.

**-Defined as any point in time from the EGDL Trade Deadline until the last day of the EGDL season.
This buyout can be done at any time. GM's still have the option to pay the remaining contract annually, this is just another avenue to use. Part- lump sum buyout and part- annual salary hit will not be permitted.
No team may buy a player out, then rebid on him in the same EGDL season.
Retirement – In the event that a GM offers any player age 35+ a contract and then that player retires or leaves the game (for whatever reasons) while still under contract-the GM will be required to take the following % of an AAS hit against their salary cap:
Players aged 34 or UNDER before the season starts- Free salary dump of entire contract
Players aged 35-38 before the season starts- 33% of AAS salary hit
Players aged 39-42 before the season starts- 66% of AAS salary hit
Players aged 43+ before the season starts- 100% of AAS salary hit
